As noted before, the healthcare industry remains one of the strongest areas of job growth in today’s economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that during the month of May 17,000 jobs were added in the healthcare sector.  In the last 12 months the industry has added an average of 24,000 jobs per month.

To help people take advantage of this growing industry Professional Development is offering two programs starting this month.

Medical Administrative Assistant Program is a 50-hour course that prepares you to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry. Our program covers important background information on the medical assisting profession and interpersonal skills, medical ethics and law, medical terminology, basics of insurance billing and coding, telephone techniques, scheduling appointments, medical records management and management of practice finances.

Pharmacy Technician Program is a nine-week course that prepares you to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. You’ll learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
