UT Professional & Personal Development experienced a large spike in enrollments for its health care programs last year, and we expect more of the same as we prepare for our next round of programs that begin in late September.

Scheduled programs for Fall 2010 are Phlebotomy Technician, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Billing & Coding, EKG Technician, and Pharmacy Technician.

Program coordinator Carla Arbogast will host two complimentary information sessions for anyone who wants to learn more about these programs and meet the instructors.

Sessions will be held on Thursday, August 19, and Tuesday, September 14, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the UT Conference Center in downtown Knoxville. Call (865) 974-0150 or e-mail professionalpgms@utk.edu to reserve your spot.

• Our 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician program prepares you to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis.

• Our 50-hour Medical Administrative Assistant program prepares you to function effectively in many of the administrative and clerical positions in the health care industry.

• Our 80-hour Medical Billing & Coding program offers you the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims, complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures.

• Our 50-hour EKG Technician program prepares you to perform electrocardiogram tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart.

• Our 50-hour Pharmacy Technician program prepares you to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Certification Board’s PTCB exam.

In addition to our Web site, you may learn more about careers in health care from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Note: Anyone interested in enrolling in any of our programs should possess at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
