Would it be feasible to promote some sort of a spring flower jubilee?

It was that simple question, posed 60 years ago, that birthed an event that now attracts people from all over the country and the world to the Great Smoky Mountains every year for the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage.

This year’s event is being held today through 25.

Along with outdoor programs and tours, UT Interim President Jan Simek will present a lecture (“Prehistoric Art in Tennessee”) that explores how prehistoric people in this area decorated their landscape with religious symbols both above and below the ground.

Simek will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 23, at the W.L. Mills Conference Center in Gatlinburg.
