New is the word that comes to mind after looking through our list of Kids U summer camps scheduled for June and July.

Thirteen of our 31 camps are being offered for the first time.

Here’s a sampling:

Play in a Day: Acting & Theatre Games: This camp will feature a series of high energy, interactive theatre games using creative dance and vocal exercises that result in a special piece of performance art. (Grades 4-6 on June 7-11)

Junior Interior Designers: Have you ever thought about becoming an interior designer? Spend a week learning the basics of interior design and develop a design concept for your own bedroom. (Grades 9-12 on June 14-18)

Fun with Magic: Learn about famous magicians, the magician’s code, and practice magic tricks with cards, coins, pencils, rubber bands, and more! (Separate camps for grades 4-6 and grades 7-9 on July 14-16.)

All of our camps allow young people to study with University of Tennessee faculty, staff, and graduate students on the UT campus.

Other new camps include Birds! Birds! Birds! (grades 5-7), Connecting through American Sign Language (grades 9-12), Eco Explorers Camp (grades 4-6), and Vertebrate Zoology (grades 4-7).

We’ve also brought back many of the camps that Knoxville-area children have enjoyed for many years, such as Snakes Alive! Hands-On Herpetology (grades 4-7) and Veterinary Medicine (grades 9-12).
