Photography students focus on the ‘night life’

Non-credit photography instructor Steve Chastain is enjoying the students in his new Night Photography course.

“The folks in the class are so excited about photography and learning how to use their camera skills 24/7,” Chastain says.

Classes sessions started on October 14, and the students are already producing some beautiful photographs. View some of their work on Chastain’s photography blog.

Night Photography is a hands-on course. Students will spend five of the six class sessions shooting photos and learning at various locations in Knoxville. In the final session, they’ll refine their images in a computer lab using Photoshop software.

Chastain is one of several Knoxville-area photography professionals who teaches in the UT Photography Certificate Program.

University of Tennessee adds “Night Photography” to its schedule of non-credit photography courses

“Night Photography” is one of two courses that will make its debut this fall in the University of Tennessee Photography Certificate Program.

Instructor Steve Chastain will teach you the technical side of taking great night and low-light images.

Learn how to determine exposure, fine-tune white balance, control depth of field, and reduce digital noise.

Discover how to handle natural and artificial low light, how to shoot in mixed lighting, the importance of contrast control, and techniques for exposing the night sky.

The six-session course ($199 fee) begins October 14; online registration is available.

This is a hands-on course. The first five nights will be spent outdoors shooting photos and learning at various locations around Knoxville. The final class session will be spent in a computer lab working with Photoshop to refine the images you’ve taken.
